It’s summer…time to head outdoors and explore your surroundings. As a gluten free, health conscious foodie, I have discovered some amazing food options right outside my door. Join me this summer on a food adventure.
MOVE OVER ICE CREAM, ACAI IN THE HOUSE: Craving something refreshing this summer? Have you ever tried a frozen Acai Bowl? My son and I love the frozen acai bowls at Zest Eats in Fairfield. The blended antioxidant rich treat is topped with strawberries, banana, gluten free granola, and drizzled with homemade Nutella. One bite and you may never want to eat ice cream again!
CUP O’JOE: A fresh cup of iced coffee is a summertime staple. Step into Jola Coffee Shop in North Caldwell, and you will feel as though you’ve entered your friend’s living room. Located on Bloomfield Avenue with sidewalks lining the street all the way from Caldwell to Verona, why not meet a friend and stroll the sidewalk as you sip your fresh hand brewed cup of joe! Owners, Jodi and Larry, have me at “You want your usual?”
WHOLLY HYDRATION: Staying hydrated during the summer is so important. And so is consuming your daily fruits and veggies! Head to Green Point Juicery in Verona for your hydration fix. Super food powered smoothies and vitamin-packed cold pressed juices will quench your thirst all summer long. Truth be told, this gluten free girl has a major sweet tooth, and thanks to all the raw food/vegan/gluten free dessert options like key lime or mocha “cheesecake,” anyone’s sweet tooth is instantly satisfied.
DESSERT PLATTER: Hosting a BBQ or invited to someone’s house this summer? Offer to bring dessert from Miele’s Bakery in Caldwell, and the dessert will be the hit of the party. Gluten Free macaroons in a variety of flavors and cupcake push pops have been a huge hit in our house…treats the entire family will love!
PIZZA PARTY: On nights you don’t feel like cooking, the cauliflower pizza at Fresco in Caldwell is the perfect vegetarian option to satisfy a gluten free pizza craving. Drizzle a little homemade pesto vinaigrette, and you will never want to eat regular pizza again!
BURGER TIME: Central Burger in Caldwell may become a Friday night hang out when you don’t feel like BBQing. Cheddar burger sliders served on a regular or gluten free bun with extra pickles and a side of homemade remoulade sauce are certainly the way to go. Don’t forget the extra crispy fries and finish the meal with a custom cereal milk shake.
TACO TUESDAY: Calling all taco lovers, A Taco Affair in Little Falls is the place for you. With many gluten free options from corn tortilla shells and lettuce wraps, your mouth will water. Not your typical taco shack, A Taco Affair features flavors from around the world like Tikka Masala, New England Lobster, Po Boy and Smoked Brisket. Taco Tuesday just got kicked up a notch.
Wishing you a summer spent with friends as you explore and taste your way through the neighborhood.
