Rise & Shine
Rise & Shine…kids are back to school and now is the time to simplify your routine. If your home is anything like ours, mornings are probably chaotic. Scrambling to shower, prepping for the day, making breakfast, and rushing off to school so the kids will arrive on time.
Follow these steps to streamline your routine and make for a little less stress to start the day:
PULL UP THE SHEETS: Arriving home to an unmade bed is very uninviting. Spend a few minutes in the morning (have kids pitch in too), and your comfy bed will be waiting to greet you after a long day.
TAKE 5: Every woman deserves to take 5 minutes to pamper. With 5 easy steps, you are out the door with effortless beauty: 1) foundation to create a flawless canvas 2) concealer to hide the dark circles 3) a few strokes of the brow pencil 4) a dash of color on the cheeks and lips 5) a brush of volumizing mascara (I swear by Beautycounter’s new one). You’ll feel like a new woman!
UNIFORM TIME: Organize your closet with a few key coordinating pieces. You and your kids can select an outfit the night before and then getting dressed in the morning will be a snap.
FLUSH IT: Each morning, drink a glass of hot water with a slice of lemon to flush away toxins and kick up the vitamin C intake. For an extra boost, add a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar.
GET HOOKED: Create a designated area for books, backpacks, and sports equipment. Have a plastic cubby labeled by day and organize whatever a child needs for the week (i.e. soccer cleats, dance shoes, uniforms, snacks).
BAG IT: Helping your child search for a library book can be a pain. Why not keep the library book in the backpack and after it’s read place it back in the bag? Yes, the child’s backpack may be a little heavier throughout the week because of the library book, but your child will never have to worry about an “overdue” notice again.
PUMP UP THE JAM: Nothing like a little music to put some pep in your step. Create a playlist that lasts as long as the morning routine. Everyone will be pumped up and ready to go.
LET THE SUN SHINE IN: Pull back the curtains and let the natural stream of light enter your home. The sunshine is guaranteed to brighten your day.
SILENCE IT: Mobile devices can easily distract and throw anyone off task. Pressed for time in the morning? Wait until your morning routine is complete before looking at your phone and responding to messages.
NIGHTTIME KNOCKOUT: Prepare as much as possible the night before. Pack snacks, lunch, and any additional items needed for after-school activities.
Remember, as Albert Einstein once said, “Any darn fool can make something complex; it takes a genius to make something simple.”
