Please briefly summarize your life's journey, highlighting the significant chapters and pivotal moments.

People who know me might call me a bit of a health nut—and that’s putting it mildly. Life events shape who we are and what we offer to the world.  For me, navigating my own health, becoming a mom (Yes, I was “that” mom who sent my child to pre-school with their own dye-free organic non-GMO minimally processed snacks as I couldn’t fathom putting toxins in her little growing body), and pursuing professional passions and dreams are just a few influences that led me to become a certified functional medicine health coach.

How many children do you have, and what are their ages?

2 girls, 10 and 12.5

What were some of the challenges you faced, and how did you overcome them?

I worked in professional services for years and loved serving and partnering with my clients. For a while, I had an itch to do something different outside of the corporate mold that would allow me to feel more deeply fulfilled and find more balance to be with my family. I can remember many years ago sitting in a stodgy conference room and being asked the question, “If you could be doing anything, what would you be doing,” and my answer was, “Something related to health & wellness.” And then, I went back to my desk for another conference call. Fast forward to 2022, and my family and I were survivors of a mass shooting at our hometown's July 4th parade - moving beyond the trauma of this life-changing experience, this became a catalyst for me to take a leap and to focus on what was truly important to me, ultimately pursuing my dream of combing my love for coaching with my passion for living a healthy lifestyle.

What lessons did you learn about yourself throughout your journey?

As my husband likes to say when checking into a hotel, “there’s also a better room” if we are unsatisfied. (He works in real estate, so he knows that is often the case.) That said, I have always been incredibly self-motivated and determined long before he came into the picture. My persistence has served me well to always “find a way” to do the things I love AND are important to me — I apply the same persistence to help my clients achieve their health goals.

What motivates you to keep going during difficult times?

I am incredibly motivated by my family - they are certainly a guiding light in tough times. I also try to hold the mindset that “this too shall pass,” and with the gift of time, things will change, maybe not always better, but different, and what you felt or experienced a few weeks prior will be different a few weeks ahead.

How do you define self-care and what does it look like for you?

Self-care is a top priority for me - I know if I don’t care for myself it’s hard for me to care for others in the way I would like. Like many women, I have often fallen prey to the mindset that self-care is overindulgent and feel guilty when making the time for it. However, per the point above, I try to quiet that “guilt” voice and have a regular rotation of self-care time - which I define as an activity/moment that is just for me and makes me feel good/relaxed /refreshed. Personally, this ranges from movement (weight training/pilates/yoga are top on the list), reading, cooking, spending time with friends and focusing on quality sleep,

What's your greatest Mom Hack that you have learned thus far in your motherhood journey?

Besides Amazon?! :). Somewhat related, I personally LOVE online grocery shopping and Target pick-ups. When my kids were little, I would always say if only someone could invent something that I could just stop at Trader Joe’s for a gallon of milk but not have to get out of my car with a sleeping baby, that would be so amazing! Cue COVID, which brought with it lots of options for store pickups, and I still love not having to spend time in the grocery store or get myself caught in an endless “Target run” of things I don’t really need.

Why do you think it's important for women to share their journeys and inspire other women?

As a first-time business owner, I recently joined a cohort of small women business owners. I have found it so uplifting and motivating to have the support of other women who “get it” and learn from their journeys in starting their businesses.

What is one lesson or piece of advice you would like the community to learn from you?

Transforming my personal experiences to proactive empowerment, I have learned firsthand the power of small, intentional changes and the importance of “detoxing” life to achieve true wellness. Connecting deeply to what matters to you is a critical part of living your life in good health. We all deserve that!
