Rediscovering Purpose: My Journey to Joy and Alignment

Purpose—it’s such a loaded word, isn’t it? For a long time, I thought purpose was a singular destination, something you landed on and followed forever. But my journey taught me otherwise. Today, I define purpose as an alignment with who you are at your core—an evolving sense of what makes you feel alive and fulfilled.

Purpose isn’t one static thing—it’s fluid, dynamic, and often shows up in the places you least expect.

The Early Chapters: Searching for Meaning After a Career Pivot

After the tragic events of September 11th, I left my corporate event planning job to become an elementary educator. It was a risk, but my gut told me I needed to do something more meaningful. Years later, when my oldest child was born, I pivoted again, choosing to stay home with him and later with my daughter.

From the outside, it probably looked like I had it all together—raising two kids and being fully present for their milestones—but inside, I felt lost. My days revolved around shuttling kids to activities, leaving little space to reflect on my own needs.

A Desire to Rediscover Myself

It wasn’t until my youngest started preschool that I began to consider what I wanted. I didn’t want to return to teaching full-time or take on event planning that would keep me away from my family. The desire to build something of my own burned within me, but I lacked clarity.

For years, I tried passion projects and part-time jobs, searching for the “thing” that would reignite my spark. Each endeavor taught me something valuable. I realized I wasn’t looking for a job—I was searching for my identity.

The Breakthrough: Finding My Purpose

What worked in my 20s, pre-kids, didn’t fit the woman I’d become in my 30s and 40s. At 45, I finally decided to listen to my gut, take a risk, and return to the classroom—not as a teacher, but as a student.

Becoming a Certified Professional Life Coach was my greatest gift to myself. It wasn’t just about gaining new skills; it was about rediscovering who I was. This journey back to purpose led me to create the Roadmap to J.O.Y. (Journey of You)—a framework I now use to help other women reconnect to their passions and rewrite their inner stories.

What Purpose Really Looks Like

Purpose isn’t a straight line; it’s a series of pivots, risks, and gut-check moments. It’s about trusting yourself enough to take the first step—even if that step feels messy or unclear.

Looking back, every chapter of my life has been about following my inner voice and embracing change. No path is wasted, and no pivot is a failure if it teaches you something about yourself.

Helping Other Women Find Their Purpose

Today, I help women who feel lost in the busyness of motherhood reconnect to their purpose. Through my coaching, podcast, and community, I guide them to rewrite their inner “music” and build a life that makes them feel alive—both inside and outside of motherhood.

For me, purpose is about showing my children what it means to live a life aligned with your values. It’s not about having all the answers but about being willing to try, fail, and try again.

Your Next Chapter: Embrace the Pivot

If there’s one thing I hope you take from my story, it’s this: no path is permanent, and it’s never too late to pivot. Whether you’re in your 20s, 40s, or beyond, the most important thing is to stay curious and listen to that inner voice.

So, where are you today? What would it look like to give yourself permission to pivot? To rediscover what lights you up? Your next chapter is unwritten, and you hold the pen.

As Jim Rohn wisely said, “Your life does not get better by chance; it gets better by change.”

It’s time to embrace that change, one page at a time.
