Please briefly summarize your life's journey, highlighting the significant chapters and pivotal moments.
Because of life changes—kids are grown and gone, divorce, relocation, retirement, death, health issues—we ponder what’s next and try to determine a direction for our lives. We’re often stuck—wanting to do something but not knowing what that something is. I devised a project for myself—steps anyone can take—to find myself and figure out how I wanted to live the rest of my life.
What’s one piece of advice or mindset shift that changed how you approach life?
I cannot be afraid to try/do things. I must let go of fear, perfection, and worrying about what other people think. I have to make my own happiness.
What were some of the challenges you faced, and how did you overcome them?
Not only did I desire a passion and a purpose, but my husband and I also moved to a new city. I didn’t know a soul. I desperately desired friends and a community (and a passion project!). I decided to do one new thing every single day - things large and tiny - to get out of the house and among people. This simple exercise helped me grow in ways I never dreamed possible!
What motivates you to keep going during difficult times?
Friends, family, faith
How have you made space for your passions, purpose, and wellbeing while navigating the demands of daily life?
I plug them in as “calendar” items
What's something you do just for YOU?
Exercise, yoga, reading, writing.
What’s one belief about yourself that you’ve outgrown or redefined? Why?
I don’t have to do everything well to enjoy the activity. This is one of the things I learned while doing my new thing project.
What’s a bold move you made that changed your life? Why?
I published a book! It’s brought me so many gifts - speaking engagements, interesting people, kind letters and emails, proof that it’s never too late and you’re never too old!
What advice would you give to another woman who is feeling stuck or unsure about what’s next? Why?
You must put yourself out there and go after happiness. It won’t just come to you. Try doing new things - it worked for me, it can work for you.
Was there a time when you felt disconnected from your purpose or struggled to find balance in your life? How did you navigate that season?
I just kept tackling the next step instead of looking at the entire staircase.
Have you ever felt guilty about how you spend your time? How do you manage those feelings?
I have not!!
What’s a game-changing tip or hack that has made your life easier? (If you're a mom, feel free to share your best 'Mom Hack'!)
Limit my “to-do” list to 7 items per day
What is one lesson or piece of advice you would like the community to learn from you?
You must put yourself out there and go after happiness. It won’t just come to you. Try doing new things - it worked for me, it can work for you.
